Hiatus House is Looking for members for our Board of Directors
Since 1976, Hiatus House is committed to ending violence against women and their children in Windsor-Essex, providing safe environments for women and their families to heal and strengthen, in support of them living empowered lives free of abuse. We offer 24-hour crisis line support, emergency shelter, outreach programs, and more. Hiatus House is seeking volunteers living in Windsor-Essex to join our Board of Directors. The Board of Directors provides governance oversight in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Board members must commit to serving a for a minimum 3-year term and willing to consider serve additional terms. You will be expected to attend 9 meetings a year plus other activities that may arise on occasion. All individuals applying must be at least 18 years old, and live and/or work in Windsor-Essex County.
As a board member you will:
- Participate in 9 board meetings a year including the AGM
- Participate in development and training opportunities to enhance your skills
- Participation in external community activities and events that contribute to increasing Hiatus House’s visibility and reputation
- Participate in and support fundraising activities for organization
- Support the Executive Director and Board of Director colleagues to oversee our strategic direction, monitor our performance, quality and risk, and ensure sustainability.
Board members participate in annual orientation and ongoing training sessions

- Board experience, the desire to gain Board and not-for-profit governance experience
- General understanding of the nature, and complexity of the work we do

- Accounting
- Human Resources
- The Legal Field
